Our 21st year of singing
June 2025
The highlight of our year to date was our joint concert with ImTakt on 31 May 2025, the Cologne choir which hosted our visit to Germany in May 2024. We packed a lot into the weekend our German friends spent with us: a visit to Oxford, trips to the Cotswolds, rehearsals for our joint concert which played to a full house in St Mary’s Church and – of course – a party!
An audience reaction: one gentleman – 100 in August – had tears in his eyes and said “if all people could be like this, just enjoying and making music together, there would be no war in the world”. Given that he went into France five weeks after D-Day and we were waving German flags last night, I think that’s quite something… He loved it.

About VoiceBox
VoiceBox was formed in 2004 by Lesley Morris and Keith Harris. The choir has sung on local radio and is now well known, singing in festivals, fund raisers and concerts, both at home and abroad.
The choir has around 40 members and performs a wide variety of music, ranging through choral classics, gospel, musical theatre, barbershop, folk, pop and early music, each presented in its own vital and lively style.
Since its formation VoiceBox has raised thousands of pounds for local, national and international charities. We are a friendly bunch, and have a warm and supportive atmosphere for everyone to have fun, enjoy their singing, and to flourish musically.
January 2025 – VoiceBox Musical Director Lesley Morris writes:
Happy New Year Everyone. Here we are in 2025 with another lovely fresh new year to fill with music. We are welcoming some new members to the choir, this term, which is always exciting, one who is also an instrumentalist, and greeting one member back to us from maternity leave. Hooray It’s a boy.
Having had a great run up to Christmas, we already have two bookings ahead for Christmas this year! But I won’t be going into that now…
The highlight of our year will be the visit of Im Takt, to Witney.
We had a wonderful time both singing and playing with them last year, and a tour of Cologne centre and a boat trip – It will be a challenge to care for them and treat them as magnificently as they treated us, but we will try!
I thought we might take them punting but Jennifer nearly fell off her chair with terror!
The joint concert will be held at St Mary’s church Witney, on 31st May. We will be hosting singers from Im Takt in our homes, as they did for us.
Each choir will sing pieces of their own and we will also sing some pieces together.
We have some lovely new music to work on from How lovely are thy dwellings fair from the Brahms Requiem to ‘More songs of a rainbow nation’, which always prove popular with singers and audiences alike.
We don’t have any plans yet for a Summer Concert but I do have a great idea up my sleeve!
The first of the Christmas dates will be Friday 12th December 7.00 in Black Bourton Village church.
